Create A Cozy Basement Family Room

Town and Country

Town and Country

Our basement is currently unfinished, and it's one of the most cherished spaces in our home. This space is used mainly as an office; and it's incredibly peaceful. One day it will become quarters for our guests, a family gathering space, and an enclosed studio for our business operations.

You may think you'll need the best personal loans for good credit to pay for a basement makeover, but to create a cozy haven for your family you'll only need to consider a few things.

Arrangement

If you're trying to arrange your basement to be a fancy gamers den or a family game room, consider where the largest pieces of furniture need to be placed. Also, keep in mind that several basements have limited electrical outlets, you'll want to setup your entertainment unit where there is power.

Arrange the space to feel connected, using comfortable furniture, pillows, and blankets.

Lighting

Lighting is crucial, especially in space that typically receives a small amount of natural light. Our basement only has one window well, but with the addition of string lighting and lamps, it feels like a cozy haven. If you like artificial light, LED spotlights are wonderful, because they are small and easily placed in different areas of the room. If you have space for an electric fireplace, they are an excellent addition to a basement, especially during the cooler months.

Think about the mood you want to create in your cozy basement family room, and add lighting that matches that mood. Don't forget the candles either!

Character

Basements feel bare and sterile when they're unfinished, in fact, many of them can feel creepy. Think about how you can add a personal touch to the space. A few family photos, or some artwork can transform the space from dungeon to lovely. Consider the mood of the space, and the activities that will take place in your basement family room. Likely there will be laughter, bonding, snuggling, and sharing. What decor elements could you add to tie into this space?

Creating a cozy basement family room doesn't have to cost thousands of dollars. A friendly arrangement with comfy furniture, warm lighting, and a few personal touches will give the space what it needs.
