The Home As A Sanctuary

We can take luxurious vacations and spend days at the spa, but the best sanctuary is the one we can create right within our homes. Home should be our sweetest sanctuary, but often times it's a place of demands and chaos.

Investing in our homes is a lasting investment, one that will bring greater rest to our lives.

Limit the Noise

Thinking of each space of our homes as having a purpose, a simplified purpose, will encourage decluttering. Does the guest bedroom truly need a television? Perhaps this can become a space you can retreat to when you don't have guests. A bedroom that's solely a bedroom sounds perfect for a long afternoon nap.  A guest bedroom is also an ideal place to store the supplies for your hobbies. Painting, coloring, knitting, and other hobbies don't require too much storage, and removing yourself from the rest of your home to create something beautiful will help restore your energy.

It's easy to forget the abundance of rest that can be found in moments in which we are creating, reading, and simply daydreaming. Limit the noise, and pursue moments that allow rest.

Brighten the Senses

It's helpful to consider your senses when creating a home sanctuary. Aromatherapy is important when you're needing to relax; try investing in an Aromatech diffuser and using an oil like lavender or vanilla, or both! Consider purchasing oils from companies like Plant Therapy that have high standards for how their oils are produced. Poor essential oils can be harmful.

Music is also important, and can support us on days in which our emotions are being challenged. I love listening to choral music, and regardless of how I'm feeling, it can either lift me, relax me, or help me to focus.

Arrange For Rest

I don't know too much about the rules concerning room arrangements, and balance, but Feng Shui tips could help for those of you that don't depend heavily on how a room "feels". I am a "room feeler"...and I'll rearrange a space until it feels right. Sometimes the removal of one color can make the lasting difference. Colors like red or orange are strong/loud colors; there have been seasons in which I've removed them entirely from a space, especially our bedroom.

Arrange each space and consider how it can offer the most rest.
