Five Scriptures That Give Me Hope
This year for Christmas I received a Bible with my married name on it. This was the perfect gift for my sentimental soul. (Sam hasn't written a note in it yet, but I am hoping one day I'll open it up and see his cute handwriting in there with a sweet note - his handwriting is the cutest.)
I wanted to share with you my most treasured scriptures, the words that bring peace, the words that challenge my faith, the words that encourage.
Deuteronomy 32:2
Let my teaching drop as the rain,
My speech distill as the dew,
As raindrops on the tender herb,
And as showers on the grass.
The first time I read this verse (about three years ago), I read it over and over and over again. It's beautiful. Often times we interpret God's word to be direct, sometimes brash, but here we are instructed to receive His words with grace, delicately, allowing it to seep in, slowly.
Hosea 2:19
“I will betroth you to Me forever;
Yes, I will betroth you to Me
In righteousness and justice,
In lovingkindness and mercy;
The Lord chooses us, forever, He will never abandon us.
Psalm 56:8
You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.
It is true that we never weep alone.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
This is the scripture that we had printed on our very first set of business cards, when we weren't officially a business. We wanted to always be reminded that the Lord has the best intentions for us, and also wanted to share this blessing with our customers.
John 16:33
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
I have held on to this scripture since I was very young, about 12 years old. Life was hard during my young teen years, and the devastation and loneliness that I faced was remedied with this verse. I occasionally will open up my pink childhood Bible just to see this verse highlighted, thanking the Lord for His grace and His comfort.
