Spaces for Mirrors - How to Use Mirrors in the Home

To be honest, we are biased when it comes to mirrors; mirrors essentially feed us (if you didn't already know, we build them for a living). Because we're in the "framed mirror building business" we've had a lot of practice in styling and hanging mirrors throughout our home. One thing we've learned, you can never have too many mirrors, and they should be the last thing you get rid of (unless it's one of those cheap circus mirrors).

A mirror is a perfect stand-alone piece or one that can be woven into a collage. A mirror, or collection of smaller mirrors can transform a small forgotten nook. Mirrors add depth, bounce light, and draw people into a room.

Here are some different ways you can use mirrors in your home.

The Kitchen

Most people would never think to hang a mirror in their kitchen. But for those of you that don't have a window in or nearby, a mirror can be a perfect way to bring in more natural light. Also, a mirror can make a small kitchen appear larger.

The Hallway

A hallway is a great spot for your wardrobe mirror, which doesn't have to always be placed in the bedroom. On your way out the door you can double check your outfit. A mirror in the hallway can also add more depth to your home as a whole.

The Fireplace

This is a more common location for mirrors. Have fun with this space, maybe a funky mirror, vintage/antique, or even play with the positioning of the mirror.

We love how the mirror is lower, mirrors don't always have to hang above.

The Living Room

Above the couch, on a smaller wall with other pieces (collage), a mirror in the living room can really broaden the space and make the space feel deeper.

The Entryway

A practical and essential space to use a mirror. As people walk in, opening the door, more light will fill the space.

The Bathroom

Mirrors have always been standard in the bathroom. A framed mirror is something to consider, whether wood or metal, framed mirrors add dimension to the bathroom. The frame can also solidify or act as a continuation of the style of your home.

The Dining Room

The main reason we'd recommend a mirror in the dining room would be to make the space feel larger. Especially with a full table it gives the impression that there is more space to spread out. Candles look beautiful in the reflection too.
